About Us

Friends of the University is a community of non-paid supporters who elevate the University of California in Sacramento politics. Since our founding in 2020, we have generated an enthusiastic group of leaders in the state capital who recognize the value of the world’s best public education system, a system that is at risk as state budgets tighten. Friends of the University understands the revolving door in Sacramento, and with our network of informed and experienced advocates, we drive conversations about the needs of California’s students, research, and care-providers in state politics.

Our mission is to support the University of California through a statewide advocacy network and relationships with state legislators.

Our Tenets

Upward mobility

UC is California’s most effective resource for young people to advance and improve their socioeconomic status.

An economic engine

UC graduates generate thousands of California jobs and billions of dollars in revenue. UC faculty and graduates have founded many of the state’s leading companies based on UC technology. Collectively, UC is California’s third-largest employer.

Public research for good

Research at all ten campuses is second to none. Between basic research and the work done at five medical centers and three national laboratories, UC drives scientific innovations in biotechnology, computer and data science, and medicine all while improving the health and wellbeing of all Americans.

A system at risk

Although the UC system remains an invaluable public resource, a continued decrease in state investment jeopardizes its purpose and efficacy.
